Encouraging Critical Thinking Skills will provide you with a review of basic critical thinking skills and practice in the use of the Socratic method to encourage your students to examine and question material that is presented to them.
This workshop is designed to introduce the concept and process of critical thinking in instruction and instructional design. Participants learn about definition and structure through lecture and exercises. We cover the steps to critical thinking as well as conditions and the Socratic Method. Given the depth of the subject matter and the length of the course, we focus on simple skills useful in day-to-day activitiesn academics.
This workshop will provide your professors and instructors with skills to:
Identify the question
Form a hypothesis
Gather data
Logically test the hypothesis
Draw reliable conclusions based on knowledge they can support
Ask questions of their students that will require and encourage them to examine the information they are provided during lecture and individual study.
